It is a transition metal with excellent ductility. It is produced only in the form of a compound in nature, but when artificially separated into pure forms, it forms an oxide film on the surface, preventing further oxidation.


Andres Manuel del Rio(Mexico) discovered the first vanadium compounded during lead ore analysis. The reddish brown color produced when heated is called erythronium.


In 1830, Nils Gabriel Sefstrom discovered vanadium chloride and dis covered that there was new element, named after the goddess Freys Vanadis.

It was not until 1867 that Deli discovered that the ore also contained vanadium, and that it was only possible to separate into pure forms.

In nature, vanadium exists mainly in areas where various types of ore and fossil fuels are buried . In China, and Russia, it is obtained from iron smelting, while in other regions, it is obtained from processing heavy oil or uranium mining.


It is mainly used to produce special steels, and vanadium pentoxide is used as a catalyst in the manufacture of sulfuric acid.

Vanadium is a gray metal element. It is often seen as a soft metal because it does not break easily. Vanadium is harder than most metals and steel and is more resistant to corrosion, such as base, sulfuric acid, and hydrochloric acid, but easily oxidizes at temperatures of 933k.


It can have oxidation water from +2 to +5, indicating purple, green, blue, and yellow depending on the oxidation state.
